EPISD Health Insurance Costs for 2027: What Employees and Families Should Know

EPISD employees paid over 24 checks could pay up to $1,458 a month for CDHP family coverage or $1,623 a month for Traditional PPO family coverage. Those amounts are the employee’s share after the listed district contribution. The higher family rates may make it worth checking whether a spouse or child has another coverage choice.

The rates below come from FFGA’s 2027 sheet for employees paid over 24 checks who receive the full district contribution. The district contribution is listed as $616.77 a month for each coverage level. The monthly premium and the twice-a-month payroll deduction show the same employee cost in two ways.

Why family members may want to compare their own options

Federal rules look at the cost of employee-only coverage and family coverage in different ways. For 2027, the affordability test uses 10.22% of household income. That percentage is only a starting point. The review also looks at who needs coverage, the household’s expected income, and whether the EPISD plan meets federal coverage rules.

A high family premium does not mean a family will get Marketplace savings. It means the numbers are worth checking. An employee might keep EPISD coverage while a spouse or child compares Marketplace plans. For another family, keeping everyone on the EPISD plan may still be the better choice.

Each adult must make decisions for their own coverage. A spouse or relative can ask for information, but they cannot sign or make changes for another adult without permission.

What to gather before you compare plans

Monthly premiums are important, but they are not the whole story. Before a review, try to gather:

  • Who needs coverage in 2027.
  • Your EPISD pay schedule and the premium for each coverage level you are considering.
  • Your household’s expected total income for 2027.
  • Information about any health plan offered to a spouse.
  • A short list of doctors, hospitals, prescriptions, and regular care your family uses.

Then compare the deductible, copays, provider network, prescription coverage, and the most you could pay during the year. A lower monthly premium can still cost more if the plan does not cover the care your family needs.

If you use a CDHP with a Health Savings Account, changing plans may affect whether you can keep adding money to that account. Ask a tax professional about tax questions. The Baylon Agency can explain the insurance choices, but this page is not tax advice.

The short survey below asks only for basic information. It does not ask for Social Security numbers, birth dates, medical records, immigration papers, tax returns, exact income, or payment details. If you later choose to complete an application, private information should be collected through a secure process.

Marketplace applications usually use expected yearly household income, not take-home pay from one check. The survey uses a broad income range to help the agency prepare for your call. It does not decide whether anyone qualifies for savings.

A licensed agent will review each request. You can skip the optional income question and still ask for help. People outside EPISD may also use the form for general health coverage questions.

Coverage review · Step 1 of 3

Request an independent coverage comparison

What coverage are you reviewing?

Four coverage paths a family might compare

Keep EPISD coverage for the employee

The employee keeps the district plan while a spouse or child checks Marketplace plans. The family still needs to compare the full yearly cost.

Keep the whole family on the EPISD plan

This may be easier to manage and may keep doctors or benefits the family already knows. The monthly premium is only one part of the choice.

Buy an individual plan at full price

A family that does not qualify for savings can still compare Marketplace plans at full price. Check the network, deductible, and other costs against the EPISD plan.

Check Medicaid or CHIP

Some children or family members may qualify under separate program rules. The survey cannot decide who qualifies.

There is no single answer for every family. Using more than one plan may mean separate deductibles, doctor networks, ID cards, and renewal dates. Make sure those details work for your household.

Family members may also have different deadlines and start dates. Check the timing before changing anything. A rushed cancellation can leave someone without coverage.

EPISD and the Marketplace have different deadlines

EPISD open enrollment runs from October 26 through November 18, 2026. Marketplace open enrollment starts November 1. The deadline for Marketplace coverage that starts January 1 is December 15, and Marketplace enrollment closes January 15.

Finishing one enrollment does not finish the other. EPISD rules may also limit when an employee can change coverage during the year. Dropping the district plan does not guarantee a new chance to enroll through the Marketplace.

Do not cancel EPISD coverage until you know the new plan was approved and when it will start. A quote is not coverage. An application is not complete until the enrollment system confirms it.

Dates and federal rules can change. We checked this page on October 27, 2026. For the latest information, visit EPISD’s FFGA benefits center and HealthCare.gov.

Frequently asked questions

Can an EPISD employee buy a Marketplace plan?

Yes, an employee can apply. But the employee may not qualify for savings. The answer depends on the EPISD offer, household income, family size, and other federal rules. Compare the options before canceling EPISD coverage.

Could a spouse or child qualify for Marketplace savings?

Possibly. The cost to cover family members is reviewed separately from the cost of employee-only coverage. Savings are not automatic, so the full household and EPISD offer still need to be checked.

Does the employee have to leave the EPISD plan?

No. The employee may be able to keep EPISD coverage while a spouse or child compares other choices. Some families may still decide that the full EPISD plan works best.

Do substitute employees have different rates?

Yes. FFGA has a separate rate sheet for substitutes. The table on this page is only for employees paid over 24 checks who receive the full district contribution.

Does the survey enroll me in a plan?

No. The survey asks the agency to review your choices. It does not apply for a plan, cancel EPISD coverage, or start new coverage.

Is there a fee for the review?

No. The Baylon Agency does not charge for the first coverage review. If you later choose a plan, you will still be responsible for its premiums and other costs.

Independent help, not an EPISD program

Compare the plans based on your family’s needs

The Baylon Agency can help you compare the EPISD plan with other choices. The agency will not assume one option is better before reviewing the facts. Asking for a review does not start a Marketplace application, and you should not cancel coverage based only on this article.
